BBL Brain fade rule

BBL ( Big Bash League )

I guess most of us know about the Marvel stadium in Melbourne, which happens to be the only Cricket stadium to have a rooftop. That’s cool. But in BBL, it has turned out to be fatal as well. Over the years, we’ve seen many a time that the ball has been hit to the rooftop. Earlier, such balls used to be declared dead. It was a disadvantage at times to the batting side and at times to the bowling side.

BBL has updated and brought a new rule for the balls that hit the roof top. According to the updated BBL Laws, section 19.7.1 of the “Stadium Roof” subsection, “If the ball having been struck by the bat hits any part of the stadium roof structure, retractable or fixed, a Boundary 6 will be scored.”Brainfade rule in BBL

Now, this is a brain fade rule. It’s highly disadvantageous for the bowlers. I mean, any batter can easily loft the ball toward the rooftop and claim 6 runs. The fielding sides can’t set up their fielders to save 6 runs that can be scored by hitting the rooftop. It’s highly idiotic and senseless to be honest.

Cricket still remains to be the batter’s game. ‘The Gentleman’s game’ they say, has so many ironical rules. Batters have the audacity to question Mankading that is in the rules. But they can happily step out of the crease as per their needs.

And now, this rule is ridiculously batting-friendly. The organizers must understand that not every ball hitting the roof would eventually clear the fence. There are chances that the fielders might catch them too. It’s highly unfair.
