Sameer Rizvi Biography

Sameer was born in Lohiya village of Meerut later his family moved to the Lal Kurti area he used to watch the matches of Tankeeb Akhtar who was his maternal uncle and his first coach.   He started playing Cricket in Gandhi Bagh Maidan situated in Meerut. His maternal uncle Tankeeb Akhtar supported him from his childhood. He was his first coach who helped him to reach such greater heights. He admired former Uttar Pradesh captain Suresh Raina. He got into the eyes of Suresh Raina when there was a match between Uttar Pradesh and Saurashtra in 2011 where Rizvi Showed his fielding efforts resulting in sunglasses as a gift from Raina.

Tankeeb Akhtar wanted Sameer to take cricket seriously but his father wanted him to focus on his studies more when he was small. From his childhood, he used to play spinners very well during his under-16 levels one of his coaches after watching his game against the spin bowling advised him to play in the middle order rather than opening. Sameer’s father, Haseen Rizvi, works as a property dealer; his mother, is Rukhsana. He also has 2 sisters to support him. In 2020 his father was diagnosed with brain hemorrhage. He passed the 10th class when he was 20 years old. Currently, Sameer does not have a Girlfriend.

Sameer’s IPL career

Sameer Rizvi was picked by Chennai Super Kings for 8.40 crore making him the most expensive uncapped player of the IPL 2024 season. He was in the eyes of Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings. But because of the busy domestic season for Uttar Pradesh, he didn’t participate in batting trials. Currently, he is in tremendous form. After a superhit domestic season for Uttar Pradesh in the U23 category Sameer Rizvi scored 455 runs in the UP T20 League in 10 matches with an average of 50.56.

After the 2023 auction, Sameer told MS Dhoni is his role model and he is excited as well as nervous to play under Captain Cool. He said that he was nervous during the Auction as before him few players went unsold but was confident that he would get picked but this amount was out of his expectations. He used to open the innings at the U14 level but his coach Tahir Abbas advised him to be in the middle order which worked for him.
