Thanks to three goals from star player Sunil Chhetri, the Indian football team dominated the Pakistani team 4-0 to get off to the best possible start in the SAFF Championship. Two of Chhetri’s goals were scored from the penalty spot, and he also took advantage of a mistake by Pakistani goalkeeper Saqib Hanif to score his first of the evening.


India defeated their arch-rivals, who had encountered numerous difficulties just getting to Bengaluru for the tournament, thanks to a goal from Udanta Singh. After not receiving their visas in a timely manner, many members of the Pakistani team arrived just hours before the game.

India’s Upcoming Matches

India and Pakistan played football for the first time since September 2018 in this game. India had won the SAFF tournament semifinal against the neighbors 3-1 on that day, five years prior. After defeating Pakistan, India will play Nepal on June 24 and Kuwait on June 27. After today’s game, Pakistan will play Kuwait on June 24 and Nepal on June 27.
