Indian Premier League 2024 bowling sensation Mayank Yadav

21-year-old Delhi boy Mayank Yadav made his IPL debut against Punjab Kings. Lucknow Super Giant got him for 20 lakhs in Auction but he proved that he is more worthy. At the Domestic level also he bowled well which got him this chance. He announced his arrival in style with fierce pace and 3 wickets in 4 overs conceding just 27 runs. He bowled the fastest bowl of the season in his second over, which was 155.8 kilometers per hour.

Mayank Yadav’s Biography

He was born on 17th June 2002. Currently, he is 21 years old. He is a Right-hand bowler and batsman. He represents Delhi in domestic Cricket, Spotted by Vijay Dahiya during the Vijay Hazare trophy, he picked him when he was an assistant coach. He made his domestic debut for Delhi in the 2022 season against Manipur. In the 2023 IPL season, he got injured resulting in his no participation. But in 2024, Mayank Yadav grabbed the Man of the Match award and became an overnight sensation. His idol is former Cricketer and South African bowler Dale Steyn.

Punjab Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants

On 30th March 2024, On their home ground, Lucknow Super Giants put a total of 199 in 20 overs. Quinton de Cock, Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran played crucial knock for their team. While chasing the target Punjab Kings started well. Captain Shikhar Dhawan and Johnny Bairstow put up a partnership of 102 runs in 69 balls. Then Mayank Yadav broke the Partnership by taking Johnny Bairstow’s wicket. Bairstow got beaten by pace as he was continuously bowling at 145+ speed.

At one time it felt Punjab Kings was going to win the match easily but MayankYadav’s spell changed the result completely and Lucknow Super Giants won their first match of the season by 21 runs. Shikhar Dhawan also got beaten by his space.

In a question-and-answer session with Nicholas Pooran, Krunal Pandya named Mayank Yadav as a player to watch out for in IPL 2024.

Shikhar Dhawan ” I was surprised with Mayank Yadav’s pace, I wanted to use pace against him but he bowled bouncers & Yorkers well.I was quite mindful and asked others to use his pace, but he bowled in Baristow’s body and got him out”

Stuart Broad ” Obviously, Mayank Yadav has a natural pace, but his control of line and length was exceptional for a young bowler.I have already texted Steve Smith. If you are seeing this guy in Australia in the Test series, get used to it “

During the Post-match Interview

Mayank Yadav said, “When the captain asked me to bowl the first over, I had an inner voice telling me that I belong here at the IPL, that gave me the confidence”.  “Many people have said that sometimes you look like Suryakumar Yadav & sometimes you look like Jasprit Bumrah so I keep hearing this (smiles)”.
