Poonam’s Cervical Cancer
“One of the youngest patients I have treated with cervical cancer was all of 20 and she came with excessive bleeding post sexual contact. Upon examination, I found that the cancer was already in stage one and a radical hysterectomy (a process to remove the cervix, uterus, part of the vagina and nearby lymph nodes) surgery had to be performed,” shares Dr Rama Joshi, Director and Head of Department (HOD), Gynaecology Oncology and Robotic Surgery, at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram.
“Cervical cancer is very much related to that of sexual activity. Therefore, proper knowledge about it is important,” she says. Almost one lakh women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year. More than half of these women, or 54,000, die from cancer. Dr. Joshi states that cervical cancer is the second most frequent malignancy in women and that its symptoms may not appear in the early stages due to its sluggish growth. This is why it is critical to educate females on how to keep safe and prevent it.
Poonam Pandey is Alive with a Message
On 3rd February 2024, She posted her video with a message that she is alive and did this to grab focus on the very serious problem of cervical cancer. People got angry after that. But She again posted.
Feel free to express your frustration – I understand. But this is not just lip service, instead, I’m committing my entire body to the service of Cervical Cancer. Once you’ve portrayed your sentiments, I invite you to visit www.poonampandeyisalive.com, my gift to you, where we can come together to combat Cervical Cancer and make a positive impact.
“I feel compelled to share something significant with you all – I am here, alive. Cervical Cancer didn’t claim me, but tragically, it has claimed the lives of thousands of women who stemmed from a lack of knowledge on how to tackle this disease. Unlike some other cancers, Cervical Cancer is entirely preventable. The key lies in the HPV vaccine and early detection tests. We have the means to ensure no one loses their life to this disease. Let’s empower one another with critical awareness and ensure every woman is informed about the steps to take.”
