A $2 game with jackpots that give you a chance to win millions. There are two easy ways to play.
The first way is to let the lottery machine pick the numbers for you. Just ask the clerk for a Mega Millions easy pick ticket and your numbers will be assigned at random.
The other way is to choose your own numbers—by filling out a Mega Millions playslip at the counter, or by filling out an e-playslip on the Iowa Lottery app.
You can also maximize your Mega Millions prize by adding the Megaplier option, which costs an additional $1 per play
The Megaplier is a number drawn at random that multiplies any prize (except the jackpot) by 2, 3, 4 or 5.
For example, if you match five numbers without the Mega Ball, that prize is normally $1 million. But if you’ve added the Megaplier option, the prize could be $2, $3, $4, or $5 million dollars, depending on which Megaplier number was drawn!
For convenience you can play the same numbers for up to ten consecutive drawings. This works for easy picks or when you choose your own numbers.
Just let the clerk know how many draws you’d like. You can also note this on your paper or electronic playslip
Remember: It’s $2 per play, so one set of numbers for the next five drawings would cost you $10 -- or $15, if you’ve added the Megaplier option.
What can you win? If you match all five numbers and the Mega Ball, you win the jackpot – which rises along with sales in the game. The more people play, the more it grows. And sometimes it really gets up there.
There are eight other prize levels. Match five numbers without the Mega Ball and you’ll win $1 million. Take note: The odds of winning the life-changing $1 million second prize have been substantially improved from the previous version of Mega Millions!
You can also win cash for matching four numbers plus the Mega Ball, three numbers and so on. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 p.m. Central Time. You can check the winning numbers online, our LotteryPlus mobile app, or the winning numbers hot line at 515-323-4633.
You can also ask the clerk at your lottery retailer to print out the winning numbers for you. Once you have your ticket, sign the back so everyone knows it’s yours and keep it in a safe place - you’ll need it to claim any prize you may win.
