UFC 278 Usman vs. Edwards 2: Leon Edwards scores last-minute knockout to win the welterweight title
Round 1: Edwards defends a takedown attempt with several leg kicks. He then slips an attack and Usman takes him to the canvas. However, Edwards got up and scored a full mount trip takedown with two minutes remaining. Edwards eventually takes his back and threatens to choke on the horn. 10-9, Edwards.
Round 2: Edward’s leg gets caught in the cage and a short deflection allows Usman to deliver a punch. Usman continued to apply pressure after Edwards escaped, resulting in two takedowns. Edwards is starting to look a little tired. 10-9, Usman. (19-19)
Round 3: Usman resumes Stoke. A minute later he gets a takedown. Edwards returns soon after, but Usman is after him. Edwards fired a few shots, but Usman closed in again and scored another takedown to regain control. Then he’s upstairs in full gear. Edwards looks tired and Usman rolls over. 10-9, Usman. (29-28 Usman)
Round 4: Edwards holds on, unleashes several strikes, and is about to take down. But Usman defended well, turning his tables and scoring a mid-round takedown. Usman has complete control over Edwards. There is a pause as referee Herb Dean watches Edwards grab the cage and rise from the takedown. Dean puts her back on the canvas and he collapses even after Edwards gets up. 10-9, Usman. (39-37 Usman)
Round 5: Usman keeps stalking, Edwards doesn’t threaten. The Challenger has to do something big, and Usman has nothing to cruise. Edwards lands several shots, but one low. And when Edwards looked out, Usman KOed with a left high kick.
